Privacy policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026.
This policy explains what information cinetram.com handles when you use the Cinematographer Tools, and why. In short: there are no accounts, the calculations run in your browser and Cinetram itself does not track you. The tool pages show advertising from Google AdSense, which uses cookies; see “Advertising” below. Personal data reaches us only in server logs and when you write to us through the contact form.
Who we are
Cinetram (cinetram.com) is responsible for this website. You can reach us through the contact form.
What you enter in the tools
Values you enter, such as focal lengths, stops, distances or dates, are processed only in your browser. They are not sent to our server.
Settings saved in your browser
To keep your choices between visits, the site saves a few settings in your browser's local storage: the selected camera and recording mode, the units (meters or feet), the language you chose, the city chosen in the sun calculator, the phone camera setting of the viewfinder and which section of the tool list was open. These stay on your device, are never sent to us, and can be removed at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Cinetram itself sets no cookies; the cookies used for advertising are described under “Advertising”.
Your location
The sun and golden hour calculator has a “Use my location” button. Only if you press it, your browser asks for your permission and passes your coordinates to the page. They are used in your browser to calculate sun times and are not sent to our server or stored.
Camera
The live camera of the frame line calculator, the director’s viewfinder and Sky in camera use your device’s camera only after you start them and your browser asks for your permission. The image is processed in your browser to draw over it; it is not sent to our server or stored. If you save a frame from the viewfinder, it is saved directly on your device. The camera stops when you close the view or leave the page.
Motion and compass sensors
The live compass and Sky in camera read your device’s orientation (its motion and compass sensors) through your browser, only while they are switched on; some browsers ask for your permission first. The readings are used in your browser to turn the sky dome and to draw the path of the sun or the moon, and are not sent to our server or stored.
The Android app
The Cinetram app for Android works like the website: no accounts, no ads and no analytics. The values you enter and your settings stay on your phone.
Camera: the director’s viewfinder and Sky in camera use your phone’s camera only while they are open and after you allow it. The image is processed on the phone and is not sent anywhere. Frames you save go to the Pictures/Cinetram folder on your phone.
Location and sensors: when you tap “Use my location”, the app asks for your approximate location and uses it on the phone to calculate sun and moon times; it is not sent to us or stored. Sky in camera and the live compass read the phone’s motion and compass sensors on the device only.
Camera list: when the phone is online, the app downloads the current camera list from cinetram.com. This request appears in our server logs as described below; nothing else is sent.
Purchase: the app is bought through Google Play. Google handles the payment under its own privacy policy; we receive no payment card details.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our web server records each request in a log file: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser's user agent. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure, for example to investigate errors or attacks. They are deleted automatically after 14 days. Our server is hosted by DigitalOcean in a data center in New York, United States.
Contact form
When you send a message through the contact form, we receive your name, your email address, your message, the time it was sent and your IP address. They are stored in our website's database on the server described above so that we can read and answer your message. A notification containing your message is sent to our mailbox through Google's Gmail service, so Google processes it as our email provider. To prevent abuse, the server also records the sender's IP address for one hour to limit how many messages can be sent. We keep messages only as long as we need them to deal with your request and delete them afterwards.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
To cover the costs of the site, the tool pages show advertising provided by Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland; Google LLC elsewhere). Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform and prevent fraud, and, if you allow it, to show ads based on your interests and on earlier visits to this and other websites. For this, Google receives information such as your IP address, your browser and device, and the page you are viewing.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for their consent in a message provided by Google before cookies are used for personalised ads, and can change their choice at any time through the privacy and cookie settings link that Google shows on the page. Anyone can turn off personalised ads in Google’s Ad Settings or at aboutads.info. How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites; how Google uses cookies in advertising: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
The site uses no analytics, and the fonts are served from our own server. The Android app shows no ads.
Legal basis and your rights
Server logs and contact form messages are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure website and answering the messages we receive (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, and Article 5(2)(f) of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698). Depending on where you live, you have the right to ask for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, to object to its processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. To use these rights, write to us through the contact form.
Cookies for advertising are used on the basis of your consent where the law requires it (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR together with the rules on cookies, and explicit consent under Article 5(1) of Law No. 6698); you can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. Otherwise they are used on the basis of our legitimate interest in funding the site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data processed by Google may be transferred to the United States; Google uses safeguards recognised under the GDPR for this, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Children
The site is meant for film professionals and is not directed at children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page with a new date.
