Exposure equivalence calculator
Change ISO, shutter speed or ND and get the stop that keeps the same exposure. The calculator shows the new stop rounded to the nearest third, the exact value and the light change from the new settings.
It is the quick answer on set when the ISO goes up for a night exterior, the shutter changes for a speed ramp, or an ND comes out.
How to use it
- Current stop: the stop you are exposing at now.
- ISO, shutter and ND now and new: change any or all of them.
- If the new stop is outside the lens range, change ISO, shutter or ND instead.
Example
At T2.8 and ISO 800, moving to ISO 1600 adds one stop of exposure. Close down to T4 to keep the same exposure.
Good to know
Each doubling of ISO or halving of shutter speed is one stop; each 0.3 of ND density is one stop. One stop on the lens is a factor of √2 in the f-number.
