Moon phase and moonrise calculator
Plan night exteriors and shots with the moon in frame. Choose a location and date to get the moon phase and how much of it is lit, moonrise and moonset with their directions, the next full and new moon, and the next 30 days at a glance.
Pick a time, or drag the day chart, to see where the moon is at that moment: its height above the horizon and its direction, drawn on a sky dome seen from above.
How to use it
- Location: pick a city, use your location, or enter coordinates and a time zone.
- Date: any date, past or future.
- Time: the moment you want the moon position for. Drag the day chart to change it, or tap Now.
Example
In Istanbul on 24 November 2026 the moon is full. It rises at about 17:10 in the northeast, half an hour before sunset, and by 22:00 it stands about 50° above the horizon in the east.
Good to know
Moonrise and moonset assume a flat horizon at sea level; hills and buildings delay the rise and bring the set forward. The disc shows the moon as seen from the chosen hemisphere, so it appears upside down in the south compared with the north. Directions are compass bearings from true north. Times are calculated, not observed: check on location for a shot that depends on the minute.
