Slow motion calculator
Plan high-speed shots. Enter the capture frame rate, the playback frame rate and how long the real action lasts; the calculator gives the screen time, the playback speed as a percentage, the slow-down factor and the number of frames recorded.
Frames recorded helps estimate card space and how long a high-speed burst needs to run.
How to use it
- Capture frame rate: the frame rate the camera records.
- Playback frame rate: the project or delivery frame rate.
- Real-time action: how long the action lasts in seconds.
Example
Shooting 10 seconds of action at 120 fps for 24 fps playback gives 50 seconds on screen at 20% speed, slowed down ×5, using 1200 frames.
Good to know
Screen time = real time × capture rate ÷ playback rate. For a smooth speed ramp in post, record at a rate that divides evenly by your playback rate.
